This story is about rekindling old friendships from youth and discovering first love. Both Harper and Cash are reeling from the rejection of their Fathers. Cash has been able to accept his sexuality because he has had the support of his Mother from a young age. Harper however, has to deal with a Father who blames him for the death of his Mother/wife. I'm a little confused with this part of the book. I'm not sure if the Father is so distraught with the loss of his wife that he blames Harper for not praying enough, or if the Father suspects early on that Harper is gay and blames Harper's sexuality for her death. Cash's mom Fay is able to step in and provide some support for Harper when he needs it.I enjoyed the end of the book, because it touched on the kid in all of us. We all want to believe that wishes do come true. I felt like there may be a sequel to Harper and Cash's love story in the future. Maybe from Cash's POV.

I could tell that this book was written by an author that was not American. Why set a book in America if you don't understand the nuances of life here? So that was the first thing that bugged me about this book.
There were characters that were introduced (the shop owner where Harper worked, the girl that Cash and Harper encountered on the elevator) and nothing ever happens with them. It was just puzzling. Why did Cash ask a nurse to go get "Nurse" and use his mother's full name? ER departments don't work that way. The reason Cash and his mom live in separate apartments is not believable. The fact that Cash and Harper were such good friends earlier in life and then knew NOTHING about each other now is not believable. (I mean, it could be, but this author did not accomplish that.)
The main characters were not described in much detail and their conversations were very wooden. All the conversations came across as stilted. This was just not a very well written story, nor was it very entertaining. I wonder if the author has any books set in Australia? Maybe they would sound more natural,and have a better flow. Maybe!
This is such a great story for the holidays. I loved how the story developed and the love came through! Need to read!
This was a sweet Christmas story about Harper who ends up needing to go to the emergency room after coming out to his dad. When he is in the emergency room he sees someone from his past who he had a crush on but never realized he was bi.
I honestly felt so bad for Harper after what his dad does and having everyone abandon him. So when he finds something special with someone he never thought he would have with I was so happy for him.
I loved the way this author wrote this story and these characters! You do get so much sweet with this story which made this a really good holiday story!
